Career Tips

With many years of experience in recruitment, Temp-Team is one of the biggest agencies in Denmark – big enough to deliver and small and local enough to be present.

How to write an application

An accurate CV

Your CV needs to provide an overall picture of your education, experience, abilities, personal qualities and goals. A CV must fill 1-2 A4 pages, and if you have a lot of experience, you only select the most relevant information. Clearly state start and end-dates and list the most recent employment first.

Application and motivation

An application should not exceed one A4 page and must not be a re-cap of your CV. Instead, it needs to highlight why you are applying for the job and why they should choose to hire you.

Avoid long sentences

Write as concisely as possible.

Check and proofread your material

Read the job description and tailor both your CV and application to the keywords highlighted in the advert. Remember to proofread your text to avoid basic spelling and grammar mistakes.

Layout and presentation matter

Your application and CV should be easy to read. Use clear boxes, a simple font and a structured layout. Templates are available on the Internet which can be downloaded for free.

Contact information and photo

Make it easy to get in touch with you by writing your contact information on each page (for instance in the header or footer) and make sure the information is correct. When attaching your image, it is important that the image is neutral and appropriate for the position you are applying for.

Before the job interview

RESEARCH AND PREPARE YOUR ANSWERS

Visit the company's website to find out what the company highlights as important. Be prepared to talk about your strengths and weaknesses, how you handle stress, what made you apply for the job, what your expectations are, etc.

ARRIVE EARLY RATHER THAN LATE

Be sure to arrive on time and consider potential delays such as bus or parking logistics. Check the company's dress code, wear an appropriate outfit and switch off your mobile phone. First impressions matter.

During the job interview

CONSIDER YOUR BODY LANGUAGE

Body language makes up approximately 80% of all communication, so in order to make the best impression we recommend:

  • Greeting people with a firm handshake
  • Making eye contact with the person you speak with
  • Avoid crossing your arms
  • Leaning slightly forwards to show your interest

BE ENGAGED AND ASK QUESTIONS

By asking relevant questions about the workplace, the job function and the company culture and values, you appear more engaged and curious.

AVOID CRITICISING YOUR FORMER WORKPLACE

Instead, focus on why you are applying now, why this role is interesting to you and what motivates you to switch to their company.

ANSWER THE QUESTIONS AND REMEMBER TO LISTEN

Avoid lengthy discussions and convoluted explanations. Answer the questions and wait for follow-up questions. If you are unsure about what a particular question is directed at, simply ask again politely.
